The Republican president is being challenged by Democratic Party nominee Joe Biden, who is best known as Barack Obama's vice-president but has been in US politics since the 1970s.

The Republican National Convention began on 25 August with a prayer for Jacob Blake, the 29-year-old black man shot multiple times in the back by police in Wisconsin on Sunday.

US Correspondent David Grossman reports and Katie Razzall is joined by Trump Senior Legal Adviser Jenna Ellis.
